چکیده مقاله:

Background: The present study aimed to evaluate serum YKL-40 levels in patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) compared to healthy subjects and to search whether there is an association between YKL-40 levels and disease characteristics in RA. Methods: In this cross-sectional study, 60 RA patients based on the ACR/EULAR 2010 criteria and 30 age- and sex-matched healthy controls were included. In patients, clinical examination was performed and disease activity score 28 (DAS-28) measure of disease activity was assessed. Serum YKL-40 level was measured using ELISA kit. Results: The mean±SD age of patients and controls was 54.86±11.65 and 50.71±3.72 years, respectively). Serum YKL-40 level was significantly higher in RA patients (951.63±639.98 pg/mL) compared to healthy controls (444.92±150.37 pg/mL) (P<0.001). There was no significant difference in serum YKL-40 level according to the activity of disease (p>0.05). There were significant positive correlations between serum YKL-40 level with disease activity (r=0.347, P=0.007) and rheumatoid factor (r=0.396, P=0.002). There were no significant correlations between serum YKL-40 level with demographic characteristics as well as biochemical measurements including serum creatinine, blood urea nitrogen, erythrocyte sedimentation rate, C-reactive protein and anti-cyclic citrullinated peptide. Conclusion: Our study revealed higher serum YKL-40 levels in RA patients compared to healthy controls, which correlated positively with disease activity. Therefore, YKL-40 can be considered as a novel biomarker for disease activity estimation in RA.

Serum YKL-40 concentrations in patients with rheumatoid arthritis: relation to disease activity.

OBJECTIVE YKL-40, also called human cartilage glycoprotein-39, is secreted by chondrocytes, synovial cells, macrophages and neutrophils. Studies have shown that YKL-40 is an autoantigen in rheumatoid arthritis (RA). We evaluated whether serum YKL-40 was related to disease activity in patients with RA. METHODS Serum YKL-40 was determined by radioimmunoassay in 156 patients with RA during a 1 y...

Correlation between Serum Levels of Calprotectin with Disease Activity in Rheumatoid Arthritis Patients

Background and Objective: Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is an autoimmune disease defined by chronic synovitis and progressive joint destruction. This study investigated calprotectin as a serological marker in the hope of establishing an adequate means of diagnosing RA and following up on patients. Materials and Methods: This cross-sectional study included 32 RA patients who were referred to the rh...

Serum YKL-40 levels in rheumatoid arthritis: correlations between clinical and laborarory parameters.

OBJECTIVE To clarify the significance of YKL-40, also called human cartilage glycoprotein-39, in the serum of patients with RA, we studied serum YKL-40 in relation to clinical and laboratory parameters. METHODS Seventy-two patients (16 men and 56 women) with RA and 40 age-matched healthy persons (14 men, 26 women) were included in this study. Serum levels of YKL-40, insulin-like growth factor...

Serum YKL-40 concentrations in patients with early rheumatoid arthritis: relation to joint destruction.

OBJECTIVE YKL-40 is a secretory glycoprotein of chondrocytes, synovial cells, macrophages, and neutrophils. The aims were to determine serum YKL-40 in patients with early rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and seek associations with early joint erosions. METHODS YKL-40 was measured by ELISA in serum samples collected every three month for 36 months from patients with early RA. The patients were treate...

Serum YKL-40 Levels in Patients with Gastric Cancer

AIMS AND BACKGROUND YKL-40 is secreted by several types of tumors. Increased serum YKL-40 levels have been reported in prostate, glioblastoma, breast and colorectal cancers. Determination of YKL-40 levels may serve as a valuable biomarker for the diagnosis and treatment of gastric cancer. The purpose of this study was to determine the serum YKL-40 levels expressed in gastric carcinomas. METHO...

Serum levels of YKL-40 and PIIINP as prognostic markers in patients with alcoholic liver disease.

BACKGROUND/AIMS YKL-40 (growth factor) and PIIINP (N-terminal propeptide of Type III procollagen) are potential markers of liver fibrosis. The aim was to evaluate the prognostic value of serum YKL-40 and PIIINP levels in patients with alcoholic liver disease. METHODS Three hundred and seventy patients with alcoholic liver disease were studied in a trial of malotilate with a median follow-up p...
